TERRA FOUNDATION FOR AMERICAN ART
Conçue par l’Art Institute de Chicago, « La peinture américaine des années 1930 » est présentée à partir du 11 octobre 2016 au musée de l’Orangerie puis à la Royal Academy de Londres. Cette exposition porte sur les conséquences de la crise financière de 1929 et de la Grande Dépression sur la peinture américaine de la période. Elle permet d’aborder la question d’une esthétique réaliste témoignant de la dureté du contexte et d’ouvrir un débat autour d’un art proprement américain. Seront exposées quelques icônes de la peinture des États-Unis des années 1930, qui comme American Gothic de Grant Wood, ne sont pas particulièrement perçues comme étant liées à ce moment de l’histoire américaine.
Laurence des Cars et Laurence Bertrand-Dorléac se retrouvent autour de cette exposition, entre récit national et regard transatlantique, pour aborder les enjeux de traduction et d’adaptation culturelle qui l’accompagnent.
